Fistula and Catheter Care
Procedures that will reduce blood pressure in the arm with fistula should be avoided.
- Not wearing tight clothing that puts pressure on the fistula.
- Not having blood pressure measured on the arm with fistula.
- Avoiding any intravenous injection in the arm with fistula.
- Not carrying heavy items with the fistula arm.
- Extremely hot and cold environments should be avoided.
The following practices are considered for patients using catheters.
- The catheter insertion site is cleaned during each dialysis treatment.
- Dressings are done regularly and in accordance with the rules.
Why should you have a fistula?
The quality of life of patients using AV fistula is higher than patients using catheters.
